Beyond das Skin

It all started with an idea that ruminated for 10 years, and with knowledge of the bath products biz and encouragement from her father, who is also her business partner, Sonja Tiberi decided to follow that dream and open her own naturally sourced bath and body care line, Beyond das Skin.

“My father, Andre, and I have been discussing opening a bath and body business for more than 10 years, and now seemed to be the best time,” Tiberi says. “He has been in the industry for 40 years. Bringing quality products to everyone was our main goal. So, two weeks after saying ‘let’s do this,’ we were off and running!”

Her company prides itself on appealing to children’s needs, and making their bath time 100% fun. Since her family is from Germany, she wanted to incorporate a little of their heritage, and used “das” instead of “the” in their name.

“I have been searching for wonderful products around the world. I will always continue to bring the kiddos safe products,” Tiberi says. “As a mom, it’s not easy to find products that are actually good for your kids skin, safe for them, and good for the environment.”

While doing her research, she found a company called Bubbles from the Netherlands that she brought in to use their hair and body items including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and sunblock.

They also carry luxury bath products at affordable prices, and supply the Cuccio brand, the first natural nail, hand and foot care treatment line.

Beyond das Skin has a cheerful, and uniquely fragrant line for kids which includes body wash, lotion, and bath nuggets (just like bath bombs). The amusing names are what makes this line and they include: Monkey Farts, Piggy Snorts, Dino Burps, Unicorn Yawns, Dragons Blood, Butterfly Kisses, Tiger Roar, Bumblebee Buzz, Blooming Beauty, and Blue Sheep.

They all have distinctive scents, like Grape Soda (Unicorn Yawns) and Blueberry Pancakes (Blue Sheep), and have a story and behavior behind their character, which includes a little toy inside. For example, as part of the “Cuddle Crew,” Daisy Dragon has Autism and Tessa Tiger has Cystic Fibrosis, and each one comes with a story to help teach kids about acceptance of each other’s differences.

To ensure kids are always having 100% fun at bath time, they also offer Lollipop Bath Bombs, a 1/2 dozen Sprinkled Donuts Case, Soap Crayons, and Bombfetti.

Although she has been focused on starting her business, it has been challenging during the sudden downturn in the economy.

“Right now, in this climate, it is a little tough. Getting products in, especially from out of the country is hard with production and shipping issues. Also, we have a lot on back order. We want to carry so many different lines but capital is hard to come by with inflation soaring,” Tiberi says.

Despite the struggles, she aims to stay on track with her business, offering safe and easy to use products which are also kid-friendly, and easily accessible.

“It’s been fun for my 4-year-old son, Sawyer, testing out and using these products,” Tiberi says. “I like that I can make up my own rules. For example, I thought how awesome would it be for the locals to get hand delivered items from us. So I am offering free delivery for a limited time. I get people are busy, so I will bring our products, your order, directly to you!”

Beyond das Skin wouldn’t be what it is today if they didn’t believe in their products and mission.

“Simply put, you just have to do it. Have an idea, truly believe in it and bring it to the world!” Tiberi says.
